entire family in their child's therapeutic process
Individuals who desire support
handling their child's day-to-day behavioral challenges

WHO WE ARE

Hey!

I’m Dr. Aurielle Mason!

Wife, Momma & Clinical Psychologist.
I'm Aurielle Mason, the heart and soul behind Mindful Play – clinical psychologist by training, cheerleader of childlike joy at heart. You’ll often find me rolling up my sleeves and diving into the fun alongside the kids we work with. That’s because I genuinely believe in the power of play – both the unfettered joy that comes with it and the therapeutic quality it holds.

In my journey through motherhood, I've been through the highs and lows, the giggles and the tears and the countless moments of discovery and growth. Trust me when I say – I can relate! Like many of you, I've had my fair share of sleepless nights, wondering if I'm getting it right and worrying about my kids’ future. But in between those worries, I've also experienced the remarkable joy and profound love that only a parent can understand. These experiences have shaped my understanding of childhood development – not just in theory, but in practice.
Throughout my career as a clinical psychologist, I've gained a wealth of clinical expertise that compliments my personal experience. From early childhood developmental milestones to adolescent struggles, I've applied evidence-based techniques and interventions that promote healing and foster resilience.
I've learned that every child is unique, requiring an understanding that goes beyond textbooks and a willingness to continually expand my perception of what works and what doesn’t. At Mindful Play, we combine this professional acumen with my personal experience as a mom, delivering the most comprehensive and empathetic support to every child we meet.
After all, our kids deserve nothing less!
As I navigate life alongside the children and families we work with, I’m set on a course to meld the transcendent with the mundane, the delightful with the resonant. I've sprawled on the floor in the middle of a play session, my hands caked in glue and glitter, not just to craft but truly connect. It is in these simple, utterly human moments that I find inspiration and connection, and where real work can begin.

The mission at Mindful Play is clear: to open doors to resilience through laughter and play, navigating life's complexities one fun-filled session at a time.
So join me — not just as a client, but as a partner in playful progress. Let's scribble exhilarating chapters in the story of your family's growth!

FAQ & Insurance

Do you take insurance?

Yes.

What is your pricing, payment information, and how long are sessions?

Private pay therapy rates range from approximately $150 - $200 per session.

Psychological testing is approximately $3000 per test.

Are your sessions virtual, or in person, and what state(s) can you see patients in?

We are licensed in the state of California. We offer in-office sessions, Home-Based Play Therapy and TelePlay (virtual sessions).

What is TelePlay Therapy?

Engaging Virtual Child Therapy: While your little one discovers the joys of play therapy, what's your part?

During your child's Online Play Therapy sessions, your involvement depends on their age and developmental stage. With Virtual Child therapy for the under 5s, your presence is key — think of yourself as co-pilot in this therapeutic adventure. You'll engage in meaningful play, directed by our experts, reinforcing emotional connections and nurturing your bond.

This isn't just play; it's about building bridges of understanding, where feeling seen and understood by you becomes your child's reality.

Transitioning as they grow — Your evolving role?

Moving past their fifth birthday, your young one becomes more independent. Set up their creative space and feel free to catch up on life, but keep one ear open—your therapist might need you for a quick assist. It's reassuring to know you're just around the corner, providing a safe space for your child to explore and heal within the sanctuary of your home.

We understand that entrusting your child's emotional growth to Play Therapy in the virtual realm may stir concerns. But be assured, this powerful platform can sometimes transcend traditional therapy, unfolding within the comfort of familiar spaces, making way for even greater strides in their development!

What is Home Based Play Therapy?

Home-based play therapy is a comforting form of support where our therapists visit your family's residence to engage with your child in a secure and familiar environment. Through creative and playful interactions, we aim to ignite joy and foster stronger family ties.

Not only does your child receive individualized attention, but parents are also included in the sessions. This way, we guide you to create enriching experiences with your child, encourage deeper connections, and improve communication skills in the midst of your child’s favorite toys.

Each visit by our therapist is a blend of individual child focus paired with valuable parent-child interaction, under professional guidance. We tailor the frequency and depth of therapy to suit the unique needs of your child and family, making sure it's an uplifting and productive experience for everyone involved.

By bringing therapy into your home, we eliminate the stress of traveling to appointments and instead, bring healing directly into the heart of where your child feels most comfortable. This intimate setup is conducive to authenticity and open expression, allowing the child—and the family as a whole—to thrive emotionally.

How are Fees for Psychological Testing determined?

Fees for comprehensive evaluations are based on the referring question and the type of evaluation. For evaluations, a 50% deposit (based on the estimated cost of the evaluation) will be due at the first session. The remaining balance is due prior to the start of the final feedback session.

We reserve dedicated hours specifically for you. If you opt to stop testing midway, the full fee will apply. We understand that situations may arise requiring appointment cancellations or rescheduling. In such cases, we kindly ask for a minimum notice of 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment.

Can I get a good faith estimate?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
